Makutuu Cross-Border Freight — Canada
The challenge

Freight that
crosses borders
without drama.

Every shipment that crosses an international border carries paperwork, compliance requirements, and the real possibility of delay. Most companies discover this at the worst possible moment — when cargo is sitting at customs and a customer is waiting.

What we move

Industrial goods. Perishables. Oversized loads. Hazmat.

We handle the full spectrum of cross-border cargo — from standard palletized freight to temperature-sensitive shipments, project cargo requiring special permits, and dangerous goods requiring certified documentation. If it can be legally transported across the Canada–US border or to international destinations, we know the process.

How it works

Five stages. One team. No handoffs.

From the first inquiry to signed proof of delivery, your shipment is handled by a single dedicated team. No broker handoffs, no communication gaps. We prepare the documentation, file with customs authorities, coordinate the crossing, and confirm delivery — all under one account.

Results

Three shipments, three stories

Each scenario below represents the kind of freight challenge we handle regularly. Details have been generalised.

01 Manufacturing Ontario → Michigan

Automotive components under a production deadline

A Canadian auto parts manufacturer needed 14 pallets of precision-machined components to reach an assembly plant in Michigan within 36 hours. The shipment included steel sub-assemblies subject to Section 232 tariff exemption claims that had to be documented correctly or duties would apply on arrival. Our team prepared the tariff exemption documentation, pre-filed the ACE manifest, and dispatched a dedicated vehicle through the Windsor–Detroit Tunnel with FAST-lane credentials. The cargo arrived 4 hours ahead of the production line's deadline. Total customs cost came in 18% below the client's estimate because of accurate HS code classification.

Wild-caught seafood reaching Hamburg in export condition

A British Columbia seafood exporter required temperature-controlled airfreight for 2.4 tonnes of fresh halibut destined for a Hamburg restaurant chain. The cargo required Canadian Food Inspection Agency export certification, EU health certificates, and coordination with the cold chain carrier from dockside to Lufthansa Cargo. We arranged the CFIA inspection appointment, prepared the EUR.1 movement certificate for preferential tariff treatment under CETA, and booked refrigerated ULD positions on the next available direct flight. The fish arrived within the 48-hour freshness window at a per-kg air freight cost that came in below the client's internal benchmark.

03 Construction Alberta → Montana

Oversized drilling equipment across a mountain crossing

A Calgary-based oilfield services company needed to move three oversized drilling rigs from Alberta to a job site in Montana. Each rig exceeded standard width and height limits, requiring oversize load permits from both Alberta Transportation and the Montana Department of Transportation, as well as pilot car coordination. Our team secured all permits simultaneously, scheduled the crossing for off-peak hours at the Coutts–Sweetgrass border point, arranged two pilot vehicles, and produced the AES/EEI filing for the US side. All three loads cleared the border within a single 6-hour window, eliminating the need for overnight parking at the crossing.
