Makutuu Cross-Border Freight — Canada
Home / Customs Clearance
Compliance & documentation

Customs clearance done by people who know the regulations cold.

Customs holds are expensive. Wrong HS codes create duty surprises. Incomplete eManifest filings stop trucks at the booth. Our licensed customs brokers eliminate each of these failure points before your cargo moves.

What our customs team handles

Every item below is handled in-house by our licensed customs brokers — no outsourcing to third-party agents.

CBSA Export Declarations (B13A / CAED)
Mandatory export reporting through the Canadian Automated Export Declaration (CAED) system for goods valued over CAD $2,000 exported to the US, or any value for goods exported to other countries. We classify goods, determine permit requirements, and submit declarations before cargo reaches the border.
from CAD $85 / declaration
ACE eManifest Filing (US Imports)
US CBP requires advance electronic manifest submission — 1 hour before arrival for trucks at land border crossings. We file through ACE on behalf of your carrier, covering trip, shipment, and conveyance information. Our FAST-registered carrier partners receive expedited processing lanes.
from CAD $65 / manifest
HS Code Classification & Duty Analysis
Correct Harmonized System (HS) tariff classification determines the duty rate, eligibility for preferential treatment under trade agreements, and whether export controls apply. Our brokers classify goods under both the Canadian Customs Tariff and the US Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) for every bilateral shipment.
from CAD $95 / commodity
CUSMA/USMCA Origin Certification
Goods meeting CUSMA (Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement) rules of origin may qualify for zero or reduced duty rates. We review bills of materials, supplier declarations, and manufacturing processes to determine qualification, and prepare the required Certification of Origin or assist importers in claiming preference.
from CAD $145 / product line
Duty Drawback & Remission Claims
Duties paid on imported goods that are subsequently exported may be eligible for refund under CBSA's duty drawback program. We identify eligible transactions, compile supporting documentation, and submit claims on your behalf. Remission applications for specific commodity types are also prepared where applicable.
from CAD $220 / claim
Import Permits & Controlled Goods
Certain commodities require import permits from Global Affairs Canada, Health Canada, or the Canadian Food Inspection Agency before they can enter Canada. We identify permit requirements during the pre-shipment review stage and coordinate permit applications to prevent arrival before clearance authority exists.
from CAD $175 / permit application
Trade compliance

Beyond the single shipment

Companies shipping cross-border regularly benefit from a structured compliance review rather than reactive clearance. We offer two advisory services for ongoing shippers.

Tariff Classification Review

Audit of your existing product HS codes against current tariff schedules. Misclassification is one of the most common and most expensive compliance failures — a single wrong code can expose a company to years of retroactive duty assessments plus penalties.

Trade Agreement Eligibility Assessment

Review of your supply chain against CUSMA, CETA, CPTPP, and other applicable free trade agreements to identify duty savings opportunities. For manufacturers with complex bills of materials, this analysis can produce significant recurring savings on both exports and imports.

Export Controls Screening

Certain goods, technologies, and software are subject to Canadian export controls under the Export and Import Permits Act. We screen your commodity list against the Export Control List and denied party lists, and advise on permit requirements before a shipment is booked.
